Scion players looking at Reliquarian in 3.29 should stop treating it like a pile of borrowed unique effects. It now asks a much better question: which item mechanic would free up a gear slot and change the way your build works? That matters when you are mapping on a budget, sorting resistances, and deciding where your POE currency should actually go. A Reliquarian choice can save an item slot, but it can also create a new problem to solve. That push and pull is where the fun is.
The Ascendancy works best when each stage has a job. Early on, Elevore is hard to ignore for league starters. Suppression, ailment avoidance, and recovery after suppressing spells cover the sort of rough edges that usually get you killed in yellow maps. Later, many players will want to switch out. Dawnbreaker is a much bigger commitment, since converting physical, cold, and lightning hits into fire damage only feels good once your fire mitigation is properly sorted. It is not a panic button. It is a rebuild-around-me button.
Where the real build choices appear.- The Black Cane suits casters that can keep Phantasms alive and coming back.
- Shimmeron is the easier route for Power Charge crit spells.
- Arakaali's Fang gives poison attackers spider scaling without locking their weapon slot.
- Gloomfang is a clean answer for projectile skills that want chain and better clearing.
That list looks simple on paper, but the playstyles are miles apart. Black Cane can feel brilliant during clear, then awkward on a boss if your Phantasms vanish and there are no corpses around. Arakaali's Fang has a similar catch. The spiders are great while the swarm is up, yet the character feels noticeably flatter when it drops. Shimmeron is less flashy, though that is not a bad thing. Plenty of players would rather have steady crit scaling than babysit another temporary resource.
The capstone decision is where people can waste points. Melding of the Flesh can turn one high maximum resistance into a broader elemental defence plan, but only if you have enough investment to survive its penalty. Presence of Chayula is quieter and often makes sense for a hybrid setup that hates stuns. The Apostate belongs in its own corner: it is for builds already serious about stacking life, not a generic life node to grab because the number looks large. If you are planning upgrades or checking POE currency buy options for a new character, build around the mechanic first, then spend on the gear that keeps that mechanic running.
