Most players hit a wall with Across the Threshold because the quest marker makes it look like a normal destination, when it really wants you to join a live seasonal event. Before heading out, make sure your build can handle crowded fights and that you have enough Diablo 4 runes and useful drops to keep your damage moving. The cleanest route is the Colossal Rupture in the Fields of Desecration near Zarbinzet. Surging Ruptures in Helltide can work, but they are hit-or-miss. The Colossal event is the one to watch when you want progress rather than another lap around an empty map. Stay with the ritual zones, clear the enemies, shut down the Ruptures, then follow the Realmwalker once it appears. When it goes down, do not hang around sorting loot. Take the portal and clear the Deathtoll Chamber while the quest is still active.
The Quest Is Really About Opening the Seasonal Loop.Across the Threshold is less about its own reward and more about what it unlocks. Realmwalkers lead into Deathtoll Chambers, and Chambers become your steady source of Superior Lair Keys. Those keys matter because they feed Corrupted Reaper runs at the Pandemonium Threshold. That is where the season starts to feel like an actual farm rather than a pile of unrelated events. The Reaper can drop Pandemonium Fragments, and those Fragments are what power the Horadric Cube recipe for turning a Unique into a Mythic. You will notice the difference once you stop treating every activity as a separate job. A Helltide session can give experience, seasonal reputation, gear, Rupture progress, and a shot at a Realmwalker. That is far better than wandering through low-density content just because it feels safe. Keep the difficulty at the level where you can clear quickly. A higher Torment level is not helping if every elite pack turns into a long, messy fight.
Save Your Keys, Then Spend Your Fragments With a Plan.Deathtoll Chambers are worth running properly, especially at high Torment where a Superior Lair Key is guaranteed. Watch the Gravehounds during the chamber encounter. Their orbs can reach the Exarch and make the fight worse, so catching them is often more useful than chasing one extra trash pack. Build up a small stack of keys before doing Reaper runs. It feels much better than bouncing between events, town, chambers, and boss doors every few minutes. Patch 3.1.1 lowered Mythic crafting to four Pandemonium Fragments, which takes some pressure off, but the gamble is still real. The Unique base gets consumed, and the result is random within that item slot. Do not throw four Fragments at a temporary item just because you can. Wait until your build has settled and several possible Mythics from that slot would still be useful.
The practical rhythm is simple: level through dense content, fold Ruptures into Helltide runs, use the Colossal Rupture when you need a guaranteed Realmwalker, and turn Chambers into a reserve of keys. Once the Corrupted Reaper feels routine, that is the time to chase Fragments and make deliberate Cube attempts. Some players also compare upgrades with diablo 4 gear for sale options when a weak slot is holding back their build, but the important part is knowing what that slot needs before spending anything. Season 14 rewards steady clears, not reckless pushes, and that makes the whole Mythic chase feel much less wasteful.
