Expedition is still one of the most reliable ways to build wealth in Path of Exile 2, provided you treat each map as a small project rather than rushing from one encounter to the next. The big mistake is chasing a headline figure such as 50 or 60 Divines per hour without looking at the process behind it. Profit comes from choosing worthwhile maps, controlling your spending, and making good decisions when the rewards are not obvious. A steady farming session also needs enough POE 2 Currency to replace failed crafts and keep your map pool moving. Once the routine feels comfortable, Expedition becomes less about luck and more about repeatable choices.
Patch 0.5 and the New Shape of Expedition
Patch 0.5 changed the ceiling of this strategy. Alder Saga is no longer part of the normal event-league rotation, so you will now find it randomly on Grand Expedition maps. When it appears, the five rune slots can still create a huge reward spike, but you cannot build every run around it. That matters because older farming plans often assumed perfect access to the best setup. These days, the sensible approach is to value a good map on its own rather than waiting for an ideal one. Expedition remains strong because the entry cost is manageable, logbooks are useful in several ways, and a well-run encounter can pay for a large part of the next session.
Spend on Maps, Not on Every Map
Tablets and Waystones decide how much pressure you put on each run. On an especially promising map, three Eradicated Tablets with two random map modifiers can be worth the expense. Look for Monster Effect first, then Rare Monster bonuses or Monster Rarity. Item Rarity is fine when the stronger options refuse to show up. Still, do not pour premium resources into an average map. Two-mod tablets are often the better choice while your character is still being upgraded. Tier 15 Waystones are a comfortable base because they offer solid rewards without the steep cost of pushing every run into the highest tier. Start with a clean stone, add useful modifiers, and consider quantity or rarity Omens when the rest of the roll makes sense. Corruption can create an eight-mod Waystone, but it should feel like a calculated risk, not a habit.
Read the Layout Before You Commit
The map itself tells you whether the run deserves extra attention. Jado usually gives the most aggressive route, with Atlas choices such as Unexpected Missions, Eastern Knowledge, Partial Translations, and Keen Appraisal working well together. Doryani suits players who would rather trade some speed for safer progression. In the Atlas tree, Desert pushes monster power and reward density, while Forest gives a calmer option for builds that are not ready for brutal modifiers. Logbooks deserve the same level of care. Hidden rumours can be checked by pinning the logbook and moving an inventory item, which lets you inspect more possible paths before choosing one. Four or more useful Grand Expedition rumours can make an Alder Saga route tempting. Fallen Skies is worth noticing for Flux and extra Saga opportunities, while Star Drinker can offer a rare quest reward that only appears once for each character.
Build Runes With the End of the Map in Mind
Rune choices are where many otherwise good runs fall apart. Early on, take useful purple runes even if the number of slots is not impressive yet. You are building towards the later remnants, where seven or more strong slots can change the payout. Opulent sits at the top of the priority list, followed by Power, Death, Bond, and Oath. Time and Rebirth can help when the route is already in good shape. Picking the same rune again does not always improve the result, especially after that rune has already spread through the remnants. Variety matters. Use Liquid Verisium to reroll weak combinations, and think twice before keeping a remnant with only a few useful slots. Near the end of the encounter, strong seven-plus setups are usually worth protecting rather than gambling on another change.
Prepare Your Character Properly
Heavy Expedition modifiers are not forgiving. Rare monsters can stack several dangerous effects, and one careless detonation can erase the value of an entire map. Your build needs reliable damage, strong defences, and enough clear speed to avoid getting trapped in a crowded encounter. Some characters can start this strategy with modest equipment, while others need major upgrades before the content feels stable. Headhunter can make certain builds much smoother, but it is not a requirement for everyone. Pay attention to resistances, recovery, movement, and the ability to deal with resistant monsters. Your rmt poe 2 budget is better spent on upgrades that prevent failed runs than on one flashy item that only improves a perfect map.
Final Thoughts
Expedition rewards players who slow down for the important decisions. Use expensive tablets only where the map can support them, craft Tier 15 Waystones with a clear purpose, and choose Jado or Doryani according to your character rather than copying someone else's setup. Read rumours before committing, build rune value gradually, and protect strong remnants when the run reaches its final stage. You may not hit the highest hourly figure every session, and that is normal. What matters is keeping losses small, making useful upgrades, and running a route you can repeat without burning out.
